For something a little different, there is Kinda Tropical. This former gas station is small inside but has plenty of outdoor seating. Its casual atmosphere has you order at the bar and then seat yourself. La Barbecue is next to a small market and has a similar procedure where you order at the counter. People rave about the brisket but be prepared to wait because it is a popular place.
Austin has music, art, and nature, so there is always something to do. The East Austin Studio Tour allows hundreds of local artists to showcase their work. It is a self-guided journey, so visitors choose what exhibits they want to attend over several weekend events.
SXSW (South by Southwest) is a humongous event held every March in Austin. The festival celebrates music, film, and interactive technology. It hosts over 2,000 music acts, world premier movies, and conferences featuring big names in Hollywood.
Chicano Park is along Lady Bird Lake. It has a scenic trail for walking and biking. Locals come to hang out with friends and neighbors. A car club also meets on the weekend to show their customized rides. The Texas Farmers’ Market at Mueller is held weekly at the Branch Park Pavilion.
