Things to Do

South Austin hosts many of the city’s events throughout the year. The annual Austin City Limits Festival at Zilker Park is a must for all music lovers. This two-weekend extravaganza features over a hundred musical performances. Zilker Park is a great place to relax and swim in Barton Springs, a natural springfed oasis in the heart of South Austin.

 

Auditorium Shores at Town Lake Metropolitan Park is nearby and holds gatherings like the Austin Food and Wine Festival. This three-day bash has food and wine from some of the finest chefs and restaurants in the area. 

 

Would you like to see a car show or a roller derby match? The Palmer Events Center is the place to go. Residents and tourists visit the facility, which holds conventions, exhibitions, and private parties. If you enjoy art, South Austin has the Travis Heights Art Trail every November. View and purchase art and various crafts. It is a great way to support local talent. 

 

One place you can go any day is South Congress Avenue. It has charming boutiques, fine dining, and quirky bars and restaurants. You can see the river and outstanding views of the city and the Texas State Capitol. From spring through fall, you can also stand on the Ann W. Richards Congress Avenue Bridge around dusk and witness the bats take flight by the thousands.
